About Us
How it all began...
Lightwater RFC was founded in 1975 after Doug Driver put an advert into the local paper looking for other like minded rugby players wanting to play together. That one small advert created interest and Lightwater RFC was born.
The club today...
Based at the Lightwater Country Park the club has seen many changes, with our facilities being upgraded a few years ago when the Lightwater Leisure Centre was built on site. Working with the Leisure Centre we are committed to providing the local community with a rugby club they can be proud of.
Like many other small clubs we have suffered over the last few years with a decline in numbers... However the 2007-2008 Committee started the "Get Down & Dirty" recruitment initiative, and the bounce back began, new players are arriving every week and we are well on our way to achieving our goal of having the 2nd team playing regularly by the end of the season.
During a new and exciting redevelopment of the Leisure Centre, we have moved our post game activities to The Three Mariners Public House in Bagshot. It has plenty of parking, a big screen TV , good beer and great food. Linda (The Landlady) has dedicated the back bar to the club with our gallery of pictures and trophies to really make us feel at home. We hope you can join us there after our matches!
Training...
Training under floodlights takes place on Wednesday evenings starting 7:00pm at the Leisure Centre and everyone is welcome.
For a map of where to find us playing, training or meeting after a game visit the club location section.
